Public Speaking... huhu

Assalamualaikum...

Erm ari ni 18/8/2010... ak ad public speaking utk critical thinking... herm.. ak cri isi pg td.. then 1 hour b4 class br ak buat text.. haha...  at the end.. ni r hasilnye...

Today, I’ve been given a statement to be delivered to you all. “Critical Thinking Course is not relevant to Engineering students”. I totally disagree with this statement since it’s one of the most important skill need to be develop for everyone particularly engineering students.
What is critical thinking?? Do you understand what is it?? I’m pretty sure that not all of us understand the definition of critical thinking. On 1993, Richard Paul has defined Critical thinking as a systematic way to form and shape one’s thinking. It functions purposely and exactly. It is thought that is disciplined, comprehensive, based on intellectual standard and as a result well-reasoned thinking.
Based on what I have read, there is a lot of definition for critical thinking but all of it is just same. The main point is critical thinking is a good thinking, almost opposite of illogical, irrational thinking but when we test our understanding further, we run into question. This is what critical thinking is. For example, based on the definition we also can run into question. Is Critical thinking same with creative thinking, are they different, or is it one part of it?
Now what is engineering? When we say engineer they will pop up in our mind it is a man that make life easier.  Yes it is true but specifically, Engineering is the discipline, art and profession of acquiring and applying technical, scientific, and mathematical knowledge to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems, and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention whereas engineer is the person who apply or practice the engineering is.
We can see from the definition only, critical thinking is really important for engineering student.  For example, engineering students that learn about soil they might have question on why they have to take that subject. Next, they should think why there is different type of soil? Where they can found that kind of soil? How the landslides happen? Why they need to used cut and fill method for slope? Those entire questions should be think by engineering student if they want to be a successful engineer.
Compared to those who don’t use their critical thinking skill? They will just listen to the lecture, read the book or notes, do the assignment and take the examination without understand what he listen, what he see, what he read and what he wrote. It’s just like they have nothing input on the subject taken by him. So when he graduates, he can’t do a good job since he learns nothing during his lecture. If they can remember, they still got problem to apply the theory that been thought by his lecturer.

Besides that, engineering student should have cognitive skills, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation and self-regulation to become an engineer.  Since all the skills are actually is critical thinking sub. Engineering student is a people who are critical spirit which mean a person who have keenness of mind or zealous dedication to reason.
Last but not least, I stress here that critical thinking course is a relevant subject that should be learn by everyone especially engineering student for their own sake and becoming a morally and ethically engineer.

Erm.. ni r hasil text ak yg aci redah bg siap ni.. then time present ak bwk kertas point2.. then kwn2 ak duk gelak je ble ak ckp.. x fhm ak.. pe yg die gelak.. at the end br taw.. diorg ckp ak klu present dlm kelas semangat btol.. siap ad ekspresi muka.. haha...
